A Namibian prosecutor says a new judge will be appointed to hear the extradition case of businessman Jacob "Kobi" Alexander.

Deputy State Attorney Nixon Marcus says a Sept. 17 hearing can now go ahead as planned to decide whether the former CEO of voicemail-software maker Comverse Technology Inc. should be sent to the U.S. where he is accused of pocketing millions by manipulating stock options.

Marcus said Thursday that a new judge would soon be appointed after a High Court accepted Alexander's argument that the previous judge was not qualified to hear the extradition case.

The 55-year-old Israeli citizen was arrested in the Namibian capital in 2006 and released on $1.3 million bail.
